The new Medical Imaging unit at Griffith Base Hospital will transform radiology services for consumers, patients and staff. Located on the ground floor, this modern department is set to enhance patient care and experience.
The suite is thoughtfully designed and future focused. All medical imaging services are centralised in one area close to the new main entrance, an improvement on the current split department, improving staff workflow and efficiency.
Easy access from ED for critical patients.
Adjacent to dedicated staff/service only lifts to convey patients quickly and maintain their privacy.
Dedicated light-filled outpatient waiting area featuring a mural inspired by Walter Burley Griffin’s street plan for Griffith and overlooking the sun-lit central courtyard.
Larger and more efficient layout with more space for better patient care and staff.
The latest imaging technology.
Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, the suite offers:
Two new digital X-ray machines.
One new Coned Beam CT machine with OPG (Orthopantomogram) with capabilities for dental imaging.
Three new ultrasound machines.
One CT Scanner – purchased in 2023 and transferred to the new hospital - it is the latest imaging technology.
One new digital Fluoroscopy Unit – provides real-time imaging.
One SPECT-CT Scanner – purchased late 2022 and will be transferred to the new hospital. This technology merges Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography scanning for highly detailed imaging.
Two mobile digital X-ray machines for portable imaging.
MRI space reserved for future expansion.
Created with input from clinicians and consumers, the unit prioritises comfort and efficiency. Key improvements include:
A large staff station for better patient monitoring.
More patient change rooms and toilets, including accessible facilities.
Comfortable wait spaces with chilled, filter water units (BYO drinking vessels).
Staff rooms, offices, and meeting spaces for improved staff comfort and clinical coordination.
Bariatric equipment to assist staff in specialised patient care.
Expanded storage areas for streamlined operations.
Radiology staff are eagerly anticipating the move into their new, state-of-the-art facilities. Led by Radiology Manager, Timetaake Baiteke and Nuclear Medicine Manager, Josh Poscoliero (pictured, above) the team is looking forward to working in a modern, well-equipped environment that will enhance both patient care and staff efficiency.
“New equipment replaces some older equipment, providing the latest technology in Griffith,” said Josh Poscoliero. “A huge advantage is the centralisation of the department and the light-filled staff areas are a benefit for staff and enhance their satisfaction at work.”
“In addition to the technological upgrades, the new facility has been designed with both staff and patient comfort in mind. The layout of the department improves workflow and accessibility while fostering a positive working environment.”
“I think the community will be amazed at the new hospital, and it will inspire community pride – it is an incredible achievement for Griffith and the surrounding communities,” said Timetaake Baiteke.
The opening of the new Griffith Base Hospital and the Medical Imaging unit represents a major step forward for healthcare, providing high-quality, comfortable, and accessible radiology services for the community.
When it opens, access to the new hospital is via the old hospital entrance. Please continue to use the carpark at the front of the hospital.
