PERIOPERATIVE SUITE & DAY SURGERY

Two state-of-the-art operating theatres and an endoscopy/procedure room are part of the new hospital’s Perioperative Suite. The operating theatres are equipped with the latest digital technology aimed at enhancing public surgical services in Griffith.

The new theatre infrastructure will keep our patients closer to home, by increasing the scope of procedures available at Griffith. Access to the latest technology has numerous benefits including improving patient safety and outcomes and simplifying working processes for the surgeon and surgical team. It means that instead of having patient information and images available on multiple pieces of equipment and paper, all information will be displayed on a single device.

Located on Level 1 of the new hospital, the Perioperative Unit features:

  • two operating theatres and an endoscopy/procedure room;
  • a dedicated reception and waiting area;
  • co-located Day Surgery service;
  • three-stage recovery area.

The new unit and location of the perioperative theatre was designed to significantly improve patient flow and experience, according to Peta McIntyre, MLHD Perioperative Network Manager. “It will also make work more efficient for the workforce, not to mention encouraging staff to relocate to work here and enjoy all that Griffith has to offer.”

Other significant improvements for staff include expanded work spaces such as offices, clinical work room, meeting and education facilities, large staff stations, staff change rooms, toilets and showers and a staff room. The operating theatres are in close proximity and with direct access to the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department. Also located on the first floor are the paediatric, maternity and birthing units and special care nursery.

The hospital-wide pneumatic tube system and extensive cardiac monitoring will enhance clinical care. Other new features which will support patient comfort and experience include lifts and corridors that separate public access from staff and clinical workflows. This will support the movement of people throughout the hospital and ensure privacy for consumers.

Hospital access in 2025

Access to the new hospital is via the old hospital entrance. Please continue to use the carpark at the front of the hospital.
