The Griffith Base Hospital has been assessed as a State Significant Development (SSD) application, as it has a value of more than $30 million. The NSW Minister for Planning or delegate is the consent authority for SSD applications, which are assessed by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE).

The planning approval for Griffith Base Hospital was sought in two stages:

  • Stage 1 - Review of Environmental Factors (REF) approval and consent to commence early and enabling works on the site, including the Non Clinical Services Building.
  • Stage 2 - SSD approval for the design, construction and commissioning of the Clinical Services Building and finishing works.
Documents relating to the State Significant Development approval in October 2021 can be found on the NSW Planning Portal.
